Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2, 2026

The short version

  • • We don't sell your data.
  • • No accounts. We don't ask for your name, email, or password.
  • • Your scores stay in your browser unless you submit them to the leaderboard.
  • • We use standard third-party services for analytics and (eventually) ads.

1. Who we are

cpstest.site is a free click speed test run by a small team. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.

2. What we collect

We try to collect as little as possible.

Stored only in your browser

Your test history, personal best, and preferences live in localStorage on your device. We can't see them, and clearing your browser data wipes them.

When you submit a score

If you choose to post a score to the public leaderboard, we store:

  • The nickname you typed (please don't use your real name).
  • The score, test mode, and duration.
  • A two-letter country code derived from your IP at submit time.
  • A one-way hash of your IP — used for rate limiting and abuse detection. We never store the raw IP.

Analytics & advertising

We use third-party analytics services to understand aggregate traffic — things like which test modes people use most, what browsers they're on, and which pages they land on. These services may set cookies or similar identifiers in your browser. We may also serve advertisements through third-party ad networks, which can use cookies to show relevant ads. We do not control how these third parties handle your data — please review their policies if you want the full picture.

3. What we don't collect

  • No accounts, no passwords, no email addresses (unless you email us).
  • No advertising or marketing cookies.
  • No cross-site tracking.
  • No precise location data.

4. Why we use what we use

  • IP hashes: rate-limit submissions (max 10 per hour) so bots don't flood the leaderboard.
  • Country codes: show country flags on the leaderboard.
  • Aggregate analytics: figure out which test modes people actually use, so we know what to improve.

5. How long we keep things

Scores stay on the public leaderboard until they fall outside the top 500 for a given test, at which point they're pruned automatically (hourly cleanup). Analytics data is retained by Cloudflare per their default policy.

6. Who we share with

We don't sell, rent, or trade your data. We do work with third-party providers to run the site, including:

  • Hosting and content delivery providers.
  • Database providers for leaderboard storage.
  • Analytics providers for aggregate traffic stats.
  • Advertising networks (where applicable).

We'll also disclose data if compelled by valid legal process.

7. Your rights

You can:

  • Clear your local history any time via your browser's site data settings.
  • Ask us to remove a leaderboard entry — email us with the nickname, test mode, and approximate date.
  • Ask what data we have associated with your IP hash or nickname.

Under GDPR (EU) and CCPA (California) you have additional rights to access, correct, and delete your data. We honor these for everyone, regardless of where you live.

8. Children

cpstest.site is suitable for general audiences and doesn't knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you're a parent and believe your child submitted identifying information to a leaderboard, email us and we'll remove it.

9. Security

We use HTTPS everywhere and store as little personal data as possible. That said, no system is perfectly secure — please don't put sensitive information in your nickname.

10. Changes to this policy

If we change anything material, we'll update the “Last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will get a note on the homepage for a couple of weeks.
